If You Have Narcan
You Can Save a Life.
Even if you’ve never done this before, stay calm. You’re already doing the right thing.
💡 Did You Know?
Narcan® is Naloxone the same life-saving medication that reverses an opioid overdose.
Narcan is the nasal spray form.
Naloxone is the injectable form.
Below are simple instructions for both versions.
THINK IT’S AN OVERDOSE? DO THIS NOW:
If breathing stops or is very slow (less than 1 breath every 5 seconds), act immediately.
1. CHECK
• Shake them and shout their name
• Perform a firm sternum rub
• Look for slow or no breathing
• Listen for gurgling or snoring sounds
If they won’t wake up and aren’t breathing normally, treat it as an overdose.
2. CALL 911
Say:
“Unresponsive person. Not breathing. Possible overdose.”
Put on speaker. Stay on the line.
3. GIVE NARCAN (NALOXONE)
• Nasal: Insert into nostril and press
• Injectable: Inject into outer thigh
If no response after 2-3 minutes, give a second dose.
4. BREATHE FOR THEM
Tilt head back.
Give 1 rescue breath every 5 seconds.
5. STAY
Stay with them until help arrives.
Narcan will NOT harm someone if opioids are not present.
When in doubt, use it.

What Happens Next Matters Most
If you just administered Narcan, you may be shaken and that’s normal.
The person you helped might be angry, confused, or scared. That’s normal too.
You didn’t take away their “high” you gave them another chance at life.
What to Remember:
You cannot get in trouble for helping.
Good Samaritan laws protect anyone who calls 911 or administers Narcan in good faith.Call 911 even if they wake up.
The effects of opioids can return when Narcan wears off in 30–90 minutes.Stay nearby until first responders arrive.
Offer calm reassurance “You’re okay. You’re safe.”Take a breath for yourself.
You just saved a life. That takes strength.

Fentanyl Test Strips & How to Use Them
Fentanyl test strips allow people to check substances for fentanyl contamination before use. Testing gives awareness, not permission.

Xylazine Test Strips
Awareness Can Save a Life
Xylazine is a powerful animal tranquilizer that’s being mixed into fentanyl and other street drugs across the United States.
It is not an opioid, and Narcan cannot reverse its effects, which makes overdoses involving xylazine especially dangerous.
Common signs of xylazine exposure include slowed breathing, extreme drowsiness, and severe skin wounds or infections that heal slowly.
Knowing whether xylazine is present allows people to recognize risks sooner and call for help faster.
🧪 How to Use Xylazine Test Strips
Each packet includes clear, printed instructions on the back.
In short, these strips are used to check for contamination before use:
Place a small, dissolved sample of the substance in water.
Dip the strip for about 15 seconds.
Wait one minute for results.
One line indicates xylazine is present. Two lines indicate no detection.
Testing gives you awareness, not permission. If a test shows positive, do not use the substance.
Dispose of it safely and seek medical or community support immediately.
🚦 Take Only What You Need
Checkpoint distributes xylazine test strips through trusted community partners to help prevent accidental poisoning and loss of life.
Supplies are limited so please take only what you need, ensuring there is enough for others.
If you need to restock or want to help distribute verified kits in your area, contact us.
🌐 Why This Matters
Xylazine has appeared in most states and continues to spread.
By learning to identify it early, we protect not only individuals but whole communities from its devastating effects.
Checkpoint Initiative stands for prevention, transparency, and human dignity.
Our goal is simple, to save lives and give people the chance to recover safely.

If a Test is Positive
A positive result means increased risk, not certainty, but it should be taken seriously.
What to do:
• Do not use the substance if possible
• If someone chooses to use anyway, use a much smaller amount
• Never use alone
• Make sure Narcan/Naloxone is nearby
• Use in other people’s presence or with a safety plan
• Test every new batch or supply
• Watch for slowed breathing, blue lips, or extreme drowsiness
If something feels wrong, call 911 immediately. Acting fast saves lives.
Using Alone Is the Highest Risk
Many overdoses happen when someone is alone and no one is there to respond, or when people are not prepared or aware.
If you or someone you know is using:
• Let someone you trust know to check on you
• Keep Narcan within reach
• Avoid locked doors when possible
• Use smaller amounts first
• Consider using a safety line or timer service
You can use the Never Use Alone Hotline

A trained operator will stay on the phone and send help if you stop responding.
This service is confidential and free.
🤝 The Checkpoint Network Local Help, Real People
Checkpoint works through a growing network of Checkpoint Guardians across Northwest Arkansas, with expansion into additional counties underway.
Guardians are volunteers and peer supporters who help with:
• Finding Narcan and test strips nearby
• Connecting people to detox, treatment, or sober living
• Helping locate food, transportation, or basic needs
• Checking on people who feel isolated or at risk
This is not a hotline or a call center.
It’s real people in your region who understand recovery, healing, and survival in real life.
If you need help or don’t know where to start, we can help you figure out your next step.
Message the Checkpoint page to connect with peer support or find the nearest access point.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.
