04 / Immediate safety contacts
Checkpoint messages are not monitored as an emergency service. Use these direct services when waiting for a reply could be unsafe.
Medical emergency or suspected overdose
If the person is unresponsive or not breathing normally, call 911, give naloxone if available, provide rescue breathing if you are able, and stay until help arrives.
Suicidal crisis or emotional distress
The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline provides free, confidential support by call, text, or online chat at any time.
Possible poisoning or substance exposure
Call 1 800 222 1222 for free, confidential guidance from a poison specialist. Call 911 instead if the person collapses, has a seizure, has trouble breathing, or cannot be awakened.
Child abuse or family safety concern
Call or text 1 800 422 4453 to reach the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline for support, safety planning, and help understanding reporting options.
911, 988, Poison Control, and Childhelp are independent services and are not operated by Checkpoint Initiative.
Not in immediate danger? One sentence is enough to begin: “I need help, and I am in this city or county.”
